@ rep:
Don´t know who will be nominated this year. But Meryl Streep totally not deserve for Julie & Julia. And the win of Kate was wonderful.
Meryl is not the best actress we have! Sorry!
I hate the fact that Kate Winslet ends it off. I believe that Meryl Streep should have won. I love Meryl Besides Bette Davis and Crawford She is the best actress out of all those ladies Mentioned. I really hopes she wins this year for Julie & Julia
The best actress was and always will be Bette Davis!
Magnificent video; it gave me chills!
The winner in ‘73 SHOULD have been Joanne Woodward in “Summer Wishes, Winter Dreams”.
I do agree:GLENDA JACKSON was British hysterical in ” A Touch of Class”.but 1973 also boasted wonderful performances by STREISAND ‘The Way We Were” and BURSTYN ‘The Exorcist’ ..Tough decision
You are right…and the Best Actress Oscar went to Katharine Hepburn for ‘Morning Glory” ..but she did not have that much of a competion because there were only 2 other actresses nominated: May Robson in “Lady for a Day” by Frank Capra who incidentally remade the movie in the ‘60 ‘Pocketful of Miracles” (the part of Apple Annie was played by Bette Davis) and one Diana Wynyard for “Cavalcade” that got the Oscar for Best Picture..Best Actor was Charles Laughton for “Private Life of Henry VIII”
oh she’s totally getting nominated for Julie & Julia, you’ll see
hopefully they’ll give it to her, and she needs two more to beat that Katharine Hepburn record, Meryl deserves to beat that record!!!
Kate absolutely won for the wrong film, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is her signature role. Meryl: Sophie’s Choice + Silkwood + A Cry in the Dark, I find it apalling that she lost to Jodi Foster, Jodi was practically 100% fake in the opening scenes of the movie.
Glenda Jackson was deserving in 73.
Very nice video. Reminds me of two robberies though, Judy Garland in A Star is Born and Barbra Streisand in The Way We Were. Oh well, both are legends anyway7.
wat`s is theme song
¡Wonderful! video for 8:15 traveled for the history of oscars… Gracias
My previous comment was in response to “mmontana” ( 7 months ago) regarding MARVELOUS MERYL!!.. 2 wins..should have been more.. and the most nominated actress in movie history..15 nominations ..make it 16 with this year “Julie and Julia”..unless the Academy is totally blind!!..it has been before.. I won’t mention names but you know who they are those untalented actresses who, for one reason or another..a first time.. too many unrewarded nomination with no prize.. finally snatched a pity oscar!
I totally agree..she was robbed (or at least should have tied) a couple of times!! You did not mention: ” Postcards From The Edge” (fabulous line when they pump her stomach: “Do I have to be there?” and “Devil Wears Prada”: “..it’s not blue, it’s cerulean.. and all that follows!” And, contrary to what you say, she was the only one not even nominated for “The Hours” a performance on the same level as Kidman and Moore..P.S.: I think she had the right natural features for playing Virginia Woolf!
uh, yes
Uh, no.
Thanks.
I could’ve used you 3 months ago when I had to present a “welcoming” speech for english. I did a “Welcome to the Oscars” speech.
=]
You’re very welcome—if there’s anything you would like to know about Oscar history, just ask me—I’m sort of a walking encyclopedia!!!! LOL!!!! But seriously, I do know a lot about who won what and when.
Meryl should have won for the devil wears prada!
Same here. Well, I love all of her performances, including “My Fair Lady”. It’s hard to just pin one down, don’t you agree?
I know. It’s better than not winning one at all!
Ok. Thanks.
It would be hard to pick my favorite Audrey Hepburn performance, really. I even like her in “My Fair Lady;” despite the fact that she did not do her own singing, I still enjoy her performance. At least she won an Oscar at some point in her career!
I agree. I just watched it, and she was terrific. Too bad she didn’t win an Oscar for it, but oh well.
She was still good in Roman Holiday. Have you seen her nominated performances in Wait Until Dark and Sabrina? Still wonderful.
I love Audrey Hepburn, too, but I think her best performance ever was in the 1959 film, “The Nun’s Story,” for which she also received an Oscar nomination. I remember seeing it on TV back in the 1960s and being totally struck between the eyes by what a beautiful film it was and Hepburn’s exquisite performance in it.
